AMATZ is an Israeli grassroots public service organization that has been in operation since 2005. AMATZ: - promotes and nurtures civil activism and awareness within the Russian-Israeli community. - aims to expand interaction and cooperation between Russian Israelis and other segments of the Israeli society. - is a Hebrew abbreviation for אמת, מצפון וצדק (truth, conscience and justice) – principles on which it’s possible to unite all healthy elements of the Israeli society. - aims to connect independent, often free-standing groups, associations as well as private citizens, and to coordinate their activity. To date the organization has successfully executed several large scale projects: 1) assistance to residents of the Northern Israel during the Second Lebanon War; 2) organizing 1-day and 2-day seminars dedicated to the most critical problems facing Israel; 3) assistance to Jews expelled from Gush Katif and Northern Samaria; Currently, AMATZ is looking for funding in order to expand and intensify its activity in several directions: 1) Stimulating the Russian-Israeli public to take an active role in the major decisions affecting the future of the country. This will be achieved by expert-level discussion forums on the Internet which will focus on the major problems of the country. Each forum will tackle a major burning issue and the dicussion will be led by a renowned expert in the field. Currently 4 such forums are being planned. We need financing to compensate the experts for their research and time. A political discussion radio show is also planned. 2) Media monitoring. This includes monitoring of Israeli print publications, TV, and radio as well as anti-Israel bias in Internet media such as Wikipedia. State-sponsored Israeli media is especially monitored for objectivity, reflecting the whole spectrum of opinions in the society and compliance with the State Radio and Television Law. 3) Legislative initiatives. AMATZ plans to prepare legislation on issues that are critical to the Russian Israeli community, while considering how they impact broader Israel as a whole. AMATZ will support legislative initiatives presented by Knesset Members, as well as by individual citizens. Funding is needed in order to hire experts who will assist in preparing the new laws as well as educated policy makers who can advise on these issues. Below is the description of major existing and planned projects. Some of them are executed independently, some together with AMATZ or under its guidance.
